Is Donald an Anti-Japanese Hero? ——A Complicated Perspective on Donald's Attitudes towards Japan on the Basis of New Historical Records

从新近发现的史料来看,澳大利亚驻华记者端纳的对日心态颇为复杂。在其反日形象的背后,还有一种源远流长的亲日情结。在端纳口述基础上的《中国的端纳》一书,其中多有夸饰之处,该书是端纳"一贯反日"神话的滥觞,其中出现的谬误,应当在尊重历史的基础上得到纠正。

The complicated attitudes of W. H. Donald towards Japan is interpreted in detail on the basis of newhistorical records to improve the prevous study. This paper aims to prove the fact that Donald of China,based on Donald＇s oral accounts,abounds with exaggerative elements. In fact,the book manifests itself with the excessive claim of Donald＇s unswerving anti-Japanese attitudes and quite many fallacies,which should be corrected in accordance with the history.
