The bound adverb ＂laogai＂（ 老该） in Fengzhen dialect of inner Mongolia has two basic functions,one is to indicate a habitual modality of sentence predicate,the other is a subjective one which indicates evaluation meanings [± ought to]. This paper describes the syntactic and semantic constraints on its options between positive and depreciated meanings. Furthermore,from the perspective of grammaticalization,the paper explains characteristics,word formation of it and motivations which cause asymmetry meaning distinctions between its affirmative and negative forms.
