文化翻译策略研究——以《三国演义》两个英译本为例

A Comparative Study of Cultural Translation Strategies in Two English Versions of Sanguo Yanyi

作为一种跨语言、跨文化的交际活动,翻译传递的不仅仅是语言信息,更重要的是文化信息。本文根据奈达对翻译中文化因素的分类,以《三国演义》的两个英译本为例,系统对比分析两位译者对于文化的翻译策略,并探讨文化翻译策略的制约因素。研究发现:罗慕士采用了"以异化为主,归化为辅"的文化翻译策略,而邓罗采用了"以归化为主,异化为辅"的文化翻译策略;对于文化翻译策略的选择主要受翻译目的和译文的预期读者等因素的制约。

As a cross-linguistic and cross-cultural commmiication, translating is not ouly concerned with linguistic transfer, but also cultural transmission. According to Nida＇ s classification of cultural factors in the translation, a systematic comparative analysis of different cultural translation strategies is conducted and the constraints behind them are explored in the two English ver- sions of Sanguo Yanyi in the paper. The study found that Moss Roberts predominantly adopted the cultural translation strategy of foreignizing supplemented by domesticating while C. H. Brewitt-Taylor predominantly adopted the cultural translation strategy of domesticating supplemented by foreignizing. It concludes the choice of cultural translation strategies mainly depends on trans- lation skopos and intended readers of the target text.
