The Hudson River School was the first national painting school of America. Artists of the school took unique American scenery as the subject and object of painting, but their primary composition was grand, filled with heroism. The American positive optimism was revealed by painting elements. Different from other artists, George Inness' works were landscapes, delivering his uncertainty about the conflict between pastoral and industrialization and the modernity. Although deviated from the main strain of Hudson River School, being the same with other artists', George Inness' s works reflected the social transformation of America in 19 th century.
