Over the sweep of history, the eastern part of the Mediterranean was successively ruled by ancient empires of Greece, Rome, Byzantine and Ottoman, which have left over a large number of architectural monuments full of rich and appealing artistic features. While they share common scenarios of great civilizations of antiquity, their distinctive charms of local diversity can be only perceived through details. In this sense, remaining sites and legends provide us with important clues to re-construct the outlook on the world as developed in the Island of Rhodes during the pre-Greece period.
