Objective To understand the elementary state of air quality in an army public places and find out problems so as to provide available measurements. Methods The temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, illumination intensity, noise level, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, ozone, aerobic bacterial count were monitored according to GB/T 18204- 2000 Public places hygiene test methods in 4 categories 126 army public places. Results The general qualification rate was 84. 9%,bathrooms took the highest at 93. 8%and hotels took the lowest at 82. 5%. Places of cultural entertainment and barber shops qualification rate were84. 0% and 85. 0% respectively. The general qualification rate was 97. 4% for 1383 monitoring items, among which the qualification rate of illumination intensity was 93. 1%,noise level was 89. 9%,formaldehyde was96. 1%,aerobic bacterial count was 94. 9%,the rest items ' qualified rate were 100%. In 4 categories of places, noise pollution were mainly concentrate in hotels, guest houses and hairdressing places, air bacteria pollution and insufficient lighting were mainly concentrate in hotel, hostel places, formaldehyde pollution were mainly concentrate in cultural entertainment places. Conclusions The air quality problems in army public places are mainly illumination intensity, noise level, formaldehyde, and aerobic bacterial count, available measurements should be taken to improve the air quality of army public places.
