Toury's Notion of Assumed Translation:A Contextual Analysis

本文尝试在翻译研究的描写框架内对图里提出的"假定翻译"概念进行分析讨论,探讨其背景和成分构型、理论假设,尤其是它在描写翻译研究中的重要地位。结合文学翻译史中的案例,指出"假定翻译"对研究对象的语境化建构促成了功能、过程和产品三个参数之间的相互依赖性。"假定翻译"的语境化建构在现代翻译研究中具有革新意义,对于分析翻译现象也具有方法论意义。

This paper aims to analyze Toury's notion of assumed translation within the framework of descriptive translation studies(DTS).To this end,we look into this concept's relation to modern translation studies as a whole,its constitutive elements and underlying assumptions,as well as the crucial functions it has been performing in DTS.As has been established by our investigation,assumed translation lays claim to conceptual innovation and methodological significance primarily through its emphasis on the need to contextualize the object of translation research and to explore the ways in which the function,the process and the product of translation are interdependent on one another.
