Objective To explore the expression and the clinical significance of DNA-PKcs in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods Diagnostic tissues of 83 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients(nasopharyngeal carcinoma group) and 32 nasopharyngitis patients(nasopharyngitis group) from Cancer Center of People's Hospital of Guangxi Autonomous Region from May 2007 to July 2012 were evaluated retrospectively. The expression of DNA-PKcs was analyzed by immunohistochemical and the relationship between the expression of DNA-PKcs and the clinical pathological factors in nasopharyngeal carcinoma were evaluated through the retrospective study methods. Results The expression of DNA-PKcs existed between nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients and nasopharyngitis patients, and the differences were statistically significant(P〈0.01). However, there was no relevance between the expression of DNA-PKcs and pathology classification, clinical stage, PS score, age or gender(P〉0.05). The expression level of DNA-PKcs had no relationship with the recent efficacy of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and the difference was not statistically significant(P〉0.05).The long-term survival of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma was longer, when the expression level of DNA-PKcs was higher, and the difference was statistically significant(P〈0.01). Conclusion High expression of DNA-PKcs can be used as a predictor of prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
