The complementarity between the theory of individuation and the principle of "Specialization" is an important topic in the fourth stage of the transdisciplinary dialogue between Systemic Functional Linguistics and Bernstein' s Sociology of Education. The "Specialization" principle specifies the individuals' identities in the course of allocation of social semiotic resources, connecting the allocation process closely with the individuals' social cultural identities. The principle' s "epistemic relations" and "social relations" offer two parameters for the specification of the individuals' identities. In the formation of coding orientations, the individuals' identities are determined by specific epistemic and social relations. Constrained by their own identities, the individuals will gain corresponding social semiotic resources which will enable them to form different coding orientations.
