Potential ordering constraints in English and Chinese binomials mainly come from areas of semantics, phonology and word frequency. Semantic constraints are subdivided into six categories: power, iconicity, importance, saliency, positivity, and progressiveness. Hierarchies in terms of success rates are clearly found according to the corpus-based study on ordering constraints in English and Chinese binomials. As to the main ordering constraints, hierarchy in both languages is "semantic 〉 phonological 〉 word frequency" ; a complete hierarchy for all the specific semantic factors in English is "progessiveness 〉 iconicity , positivity, importance 〉 saliency, power" while in Chinese the hierarchy is "importance 〉 iconicity, progressiveness, positivity, power 〉 saliency".
