Brown spot is one of the major diseases in the process of Zizania latifolia production, and the pathogen was named Helminthosporium at the first time. With the change of the genus name, the pathogen was transferred to bipolaris as wild bipolaris. However, the latest research showed that the pathogen belong to the species is the same with rice brown spot. This paper illuminated the evolution history of the name of Zizania latifolia brown spot pathogen and the significance of rename pathogen on the decision making of the disease prevention and control.
