Dreyfus contrasts my views unfavorably with Heidegger's in his Heidegger book. However,he persistently misstates my views, and his misunderstandings are not accidental. He has real difficulty in understanding my position. His account for skillful coping is so vague that you cannot quite tell what he has in mind. But as soon as you spell it out in detail, you see that it must be false. His book dramatically illustrates the weakness of the phenomenological method, at least as practiced by him and Heidegger. My enterprise in analyzing intentionality is totally different from that of Husserl and Heidegger. Many of Dreyfus' s misunderstandings come from a failure to appreciate it.
