The Porcupine by Julian Barnes is a novel with great significance. Through the description of the power struggles and ideological conflicts embodied in the main characters, the novel displaysa realistic representation of contemporary political history, and the implied political intention in Barnes＇ s subversive writing of contemporary politics-history. The historical writing in The Porcupine reveals Barnes＇ s potential critique, by way of novel writing, on the political, historical hypothesis of ＂The End of History＂ and his deep rethinking spirit and intense critique awareness.
