Recently, the topic of "tumors arose from chronic inflammation" has been paid more attention and increasingly recognized by people, which has become the hotspot in the research of tumor. In fact, the cancer- associated inflammation is nonresolving inflammation, and nonresolving inflammation is closely related to the initiation, progression, metastasis of tumor. However, tumor cells can also sustain and amplify the local inflammatory reaction directly through secreting various inflammatory mediator by autocrine or other ways, and result in promoting the survival and growth of themselves. Nonresolving inflammation has been demonstrated to participate in the initiation and progression of head and neck cancer (HNC), in which many molecules and signaling pathways were involved. In this article, I would like to review the relationship between nonresolving inflammation and HNC (such as nasopharynx cancer, laryngocarcinoma, oral cancer, thyroid cancer and skin cancer).
