Burger's Daughter is one of Nadine Gordimer's most important novels. It describes the growing experience of a young lady, who is the daughter of a Communist. By applying the Bildungsroman theory, this thesis will explore the psychological changes of the heroine Rosa. At first, Rosa has a miserable childhood because of innocence. Then, she gets puzzled in 'comfortable' life in Paris. Finally, Rosa finds her real identity. From Burger's Daughter, we can find that Nadine Gordimer always supports humanism and exposes the disaster and distortion of the human nature brought by apartheid system.
