Vaccination has played an important role in the prevention and control of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI). However there are many factors influencing the vaccine efficiency, and further improvement is needed. In this paper,we reviewed the current situation and progress on H5N1 avian influenza vaccines and the factors that influence the vaccine efficiency, including immune duration, antigenic matching, vaccine production, adjuvants and maternal antibody interference.
