新移民作家张翎笔下的人物常常穿梭于中国经验与北美经验之间。作家的回归想象一方面是双重经验的越界书写,另一方面是文化身份的确认与审视;然而,一旦放逐与漂泊的状态没有改变,作家的回归想象终将是离散的想象,充满着离散与回归的悖谬,越界与游移的吊诡。

The characters in new immigrant writer ZHANG Ling＇s novels always shuttled between Chinese experience and the North A -merican experience .The writer＇s imagination about regression , on one hand, was the writing experience between two countries;on the other hand, it was the confirming and examination of the cultural identity .However, the writer could not change the situation of exiling and drifting, so the imagination about returning China was still full of dispersal .So the novels would handle with the paradox about dis-persal and regression , about traveling and wandering .
