摘要
情态动词给中国非英语专业学生的写作带来了很大的障碍。本研究采用本校非英语专业学生四级作文语料库CAUYTCET4和英语本族语语料库(LOCNESS)两个语料库进行研究,对九个核心情态动词can,could,should,shall,may,might,will,would.must进行了词频的分析和比对,发现中国学生写作中存在很多滥用、误用及少用现象,并通过实际的例句对原因进行了深入的分析。最后,对英语写作教学提出了建设性的建议,希望能够对学生的英语写作有所启示。
Non-English majors in Chinese universities find modal verbs a great obstacle to writing. This paper compares a writing corpus including CET4 compositions written by college students called CAUYTCET4 and a native speakers' writing corpus called LOCNESS and makes analysis of the nine key modal verbs. The analysis reveals that Chinese students ten to overuse, misuse or use less modal verbs. After further analysis of the possible causes, the paper puts forward some constructive suggestions on how to teach English writing so as to improve the students' writing ability.
