It is very common that a lot of definitions of terms ap- pear in a dissertation. An exact definition is a very important factor in a successful dissertation. This paper discusses the main problems on the definitions of terms in dissertations on the basis of the definitions of ＂definition＂, analyzes their reasons and gives some solutions from the perspectives of standardability of dissertations and formal logics in order to improve the quality of disser- tations.
