A Mini Biography of XIE Yu-cen

江南词人谢玉岑,工书,能画,尤长于倚声。其书法以篆隶为工,所书钟鼎金文,论者以为"可胜缶翁"。其画多逸笔,水墨清淡,极疏简之致。张大千称赞"文人画,海内当推玉岑第一"。著有《玉岑诗稿》《白菡萏香室词》《孤鸾词》等。

The lyric writer XIE Yu-cen from the South of Yangtze River was good at calligraphy and painting, especially at composing poems according to a given tune. He was adept at writing of seal characters and Li style of calligraphy. His calligraphy of inscriptions on bronze objects was considered better than WU Chang-shuo. His paintings were characterized by indulgent technique, weak ink and simplicity. He was praised by ZHANG Da-qian as ＂first one in China＂. He left to the world works as Yu-Cen＇s Poem Manuscript, Lyric of White Lotus Blossom and Lyric of a Lonely Phoenix.
