清中期的"扬州二马"以其雄厚的物质基础,广交文人学者,以极大的精力和财力搜求、转抄、精校、精刻图书,几十年间其小玲珑山馆藏书逾十万卷,在刻书方面创立了"马版"图书品牌。其图书收藏事业惠及当时学林甚巨,而与文人学者的广泛交游又使他们及时获知学术和文化发展的动态和信息,便于及时购求新书异著,进而丰富其藏书。同时,他们还通过大量刻印贫寒之士的著述、创办书院等文化活动,推进了清中期的文化繁荣。这些对当今的图书文献整理和文化发展莫不具有启示意义。

In the middle of Qing Dynasty, with their strong material basis,＂ Yangzhou Brothers＂ had made friends with many scholars and spent great energy and money in collecting, copying, fin- ing and refining engraved books. After dozens of years, their library had stored more than one hundred thousand volumes. At the same time, they created the books of ＂Ma brand ＂. The utilities of book collection had huge benefits to the scholars, and extensive travel and communication with scholars made them promptly informed of the academic and cultural development and dynamic in- formation which facilitated to purchase new and rare books of the library, and enriched their col- lection. Meanwhile,they also copied the books of a large number of poor people and established the academy. These culture activities promoted the cultural prosperity in the middle of Qing Dy- nasty. It is of great significance to the current library document arrangement and culture develop- ment.
