焦陂塘兴废考——兼及焦陂镇

Study on Vicissitudes of Jiaobei Pond

焦陂在历史文献中有焦陵陂、燋丘、椒陂等多种称谓。其最早可能兴建于三国正始年间,中经唐柳宝积和宋欧阳修、苏轼的几度修治,灌溉和交通功能在北宋时达到最佳,从而带动了位于陂塘之侧焦陂镇的繁荣。此后,由于自然、人为等因素,焦陂塘在清初时基本废弃,焦陂古镇也因此衰落。

Jiaobei had different appellations, such as Jiaoling, Jiaoqiu and Jiaobei（椒陂） in the historical documents. It is possible that Jiaobei pond was originally founded in Zhengshi period of the Three Kingdoms Dynasty. After it was repaired by Liu Bao -ji, Su Shi and Ouyang Xiu, its irrigation and water transportation played the most important role in the Northern Song Dynasty, bring prosperity of Jiaobei Town, a town near Jiaobei Pond. From then on, because of natural, factitious and other factors, Jiaobei Pond was basically out of use in the early Qing Dynasty, and therefore, Jiaobei Town declined.
