＂New Stories Written in Candle Light＂ is a very important collection of stories in classical style at the early Ming Dynasty. One character of this collection is that there are many poems. The reason why poems are included in this book is explained from the perspective of poetry tradition, the writer＇ s family history and background, and his views on poetry. The structural relation between poetry and novel is discussed with the consideration of the influence of poetry on the general style of the novel, based on which the unique value of the poetry in this book is reinterpreted, as long as its function of linking the past and future.
