摘要
英语的中动结构是一种既不同于主动态也不同于被动态的结构,具有自身的结构和特性。从语义上看,中动结构描述其主语所指事物及其特性。按照功能语言学的评价理论,中动结构是一种具有评价功能的结构。根据评价理论的态度系统,中动结构主要表达鉴赏意义。这些鉴赏意义实际上是说话人运用方式附加语表达的感受、态度或看法。中动结构之所以能够表达鉴赏意义是由于语言的主观性使然。
Middle construction （MC） in English, as a type of construction which is different from both active construction and passive construction, has its own formal features and attribute characteristics. Semantically, what MC describes is the entity （E） desig- nated by its subject. Based upon the Appraisal Theory in Systemic Functional Linguistics, MC can function as evaluation. Ac- cording to the attitude system of the Appraisal Theory, MC mainly expresses the speaker＇s appreciation of E, specifically, the speaker＇s reactions to E, by means of manner adjuncts. Such a property of MC is ensured by the subjectivity of language.
