This article aims to explore the laureate poet Ted Hughes's critical thinking in his six major collections of poems. It reveals that Hughes's poetry bears unique naturalistic as well as humanistic features. Through a u-nique expression of individuals' transformation, his poetic works defamiliarize the recurrent subject matter of Man-Nature relationship. Some of the poetic themes and devices which Hughes employs in his works have sub-verted the established and dominant value system of Western instrumental rationalism in his times. The literary influence of Ted Hughes's poetry is great and far-reaching.
