As one of well-known Chinese American woman writers in the world, M. H. Kingston highlights the quest for the identity of Chinese Americans and presents the ways of its construction in her works. Situated in the dual cultural background, Chinese Americans find they are caught in the crisis of cultural identity： neither Chinese culture nor American culture embraces them. At a loss, they set out their odyssey of identity-seeking. By analyzing Homeland Desire and cultural hybridity and combining Chinese legends and European classics together, Kingston creatively reestablishes a new identity of Chinese Americans, preserving Chineseness while maintaining American values.
