On Qian Zhongshu's Personal Experience after the Founding of New China

与同时代的知识分子一样,新中国成立后的钱锺书也同样受到不公正的对待,无论是其亲人还是他本人;同时,对于这个特殊年代,与其他的思考者一样,他也作出了自己的思考和抗争,《管锥编》的文言书写方式成为了一件特殊的"隐身衣"。所以,钱锺书的心路历程同样证明了没有人能够绝缘于政治的常识,而对于时代有着独立的思考成为一个合格的知识分子的必要条件。

Like the contemporary intellectuals,Qian Zhongshu also suffered unfair treatment after the founding of new China; however,he,like other thinkers,did his own thinking and struggle in those special years. Qian created Guanzhui Bian in a covert manner and the use of classical Chinese could be regarded as a special"invisible cloak". Qian's personal experience shows that nobody can be cut off from politics and having the independent thinking on the times should be a necessary condition for being a qualified intellectual.
