1986年,赖声川率领表演工作坊成员以集体创作的方式完成了《暗恋桃花源》,引起剧场观众的热烈回响,这出戏在后来的十多年里三度巡回公演,并且改拍成电影。《暗恋桃花源》的戏剧结构打破了以往的舞台成规,把《暗恋》与《桃花源》两出戏巧妙地安置在同一舞台上,使原本分开略嫌单薄的两出戏结合成意义深远的一部作品。

In 1986,Lai Shengchuan finished writing Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land with his workshop members,arousing heated reactions from audience. The play has been going on a performance tour over the past ten years and been made into a film. The drama structure of Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land broke the stage rules set down in the past,putting Secret Love and Peach Blossom Land on the same stage and making the two thin plays a profound work.
