The “Freedom of Navigation”Issue in China-U.S. Relations

摘要近年来,"航行自由"问题作为中美关系的老议题而时有发酵。该问题的产生源于中美对国际海洋法内容的不同解读,深层次上反映了两国相关战略利益和海洋战略的对立。"航行自由"问题引发中美摩擦风险,一定程度上加剧了海权博弈,但也倒逼相关信任措施机制建设,促使双方理性管控分歧。 The 'Freedom of Navigation'issue has been volatile and often influenced Sino-US relations in recent years. This problem was rooted in different interpretation of the UNCLOS by China and the US. It has also reflected their different national interests and maritime strategies. This issue has caused frequent frictions between the two sides and may lead to their future contest for sea power. At the same time,it also urges the both sides to set up new mechanism for confidence building that may help them to manage it in a more rational way.
