In The Robber Bride, Atwood depicts three ＂goddess＂ women-rational and intelligent Tony,kind and primitive Charis, and capable and resourceful Roz, and a ＂syren＂ woman--Zenia. Atwood en- dows those women with different complex personality and psychology. The novel depicts their growth from being victims to being rebellious and independent, and shows women＇s struggling for survival and subversion in predicament and their search and reconstruction for self identity. Zenia not only gives a fatal blow to the three women, but also teaches them to be strong and independent. In the continuous confron- tation with and fight against Zenia, the three women finally manage to achieve mental growth, spiritual maturity and self improvement.
