Objective To provide an reliable evidence for clinical practice, a systematic review and meta -analysis was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy for urinary retentionpostoperative. Methods Literature wasextraeted from Pubmed, EMbase, Chinese Journal Full -text Database (CNKI), WanFang database, VIP full -text periodical database, we in- eluded the randomized controlled trials (randomized controlled trials, RCT) of acupuncture for treatment of urinary retention post- operative . ByCochrane collaboration's toll forassessing of bias to evaluate the quality of the included studies. The data were ana- lyzed by Revman 5.2 software provided by Cochrane network. Results A total of 14 papers( 1058 patients) were includedin the Meta analysis. The results of the study showed that : the merger effect quality odds ratios (OR) = 3.49, and 95 % confidence inter- val(CI) :2.40,5.07 ,and the merger effect value test Z = 6.54 ,P 〈 0. 00001. Funnel chart shows that the results were roughly symmetry. Statistical difference indicates the therapeutic effect of acupuncture was better than the non - acupuncture. Conclusion The Meta analysis resuhs was a trend in favor of acupuncture effectiveness. However, due to low quality of included studies and there are no studies reporting adverse events ,further well- designed RCTs with high quality are still needed to evalu- ate the beneficial effects of acupotomoy.
