Qiaoxiang Culture and Qiaoxiang Culture Studies

"侨乡"长期作为华侨华人历史研究的"背景"、"配角",这与其实际的历史地位和学术价值是不相称的。"侨乡文化"与"华侨历史"是互为依托又相对独立的研究主体,它有自己的发展轨迹和学术特征,是中国学者拥有的优势学术资源。通过论述"侨乡文化"的主体特征,并回顾广东侨乡文化研究中心进行侨乡文化学科建设的历程,希望以此为侨乡文化研究的继续成长发育打下一个基础。

For a long time,qiangxiang has been the'background'and a ' supporting role'in the study of overseas Chinese history; this is not commensurate to its actual historical status and academic value. Qiaoxiang culture is a relatively independent research subject,yet there exits a mutual- support relationship between it and overseas Chinese historical studies. It has its own development track and academic characteristics and is an advantageous academic resource of Chinese scholars. This paper discusses the main features of the'qiaoxiang culture'and reviews the course of discipline construction by the Guangdong Qiaoxiang Culture Research Center with a view to laying a foundation for the continued growth and development of qiaoxiang culture research.
