Violence and Translation

翻译策略的选择受多种因素的制约,但无论是归化还是异化,都注定将结出暴力的果。翻译是暴力产生的场所,有翻译的地方就有暴力,二者如影随形,这是翻译的宿命,也是由翻译的本质决定的。虽然暴力是翻译的常态,但也是不同文化之间沟通的唯一选择。文章从历史、文化、译者的道德立场等方面分析翻译暴力产生的根源及其存在的普遍性。

The choice of translation strategies is conditioned by various factors. However, it is doomed to bear the fruit of violence whatever strategy of domestication or foreignization is to be chosen. Translating is the field where violence happens. Where the translation happens, there is violence. The destiny is determined by the nature of translation. Though being the normalcy of translating violence, it is the only way to communicate between cultures. This paper is to analyze the roots of violence of translation and its university from history, culture and the moral stance of translators, etc.
