What Can Literature Equip Medical Students With?

医学不仅是自然科学,也是人学。作为医学在叙事方面更为具体的探索,文学有助于医学的人性化。尝试在医学本科教学中开设《医学与文学》课程,阐述该课程的需求分析、课程设置、教学评价、需要克服的障碍等,试图将人性的光辉注入医疗实践,让医学在实现各种技术目标的同时,更加关注疾病、痛苦、健康以及人道主义,在某种意义上实现通过疾病治疗讲述人与人之间的故事。最终发现,对医学生以文学熏陶,可以加深学生对疾病的理解,提高学生的移情能力,进而提高学生的人文素质。

Medicine is not only science, but also about humanity. As an approach of narrative medicine, literature can help to promote the humanistic medicine. This paper discussed the experiences of ＂medicine and literature＂ course in the aspects of students＇ need, curriculum setting and evaluation. The course was aiming to promote humanistic care for illness and suffering while medical interventions are provided, which is also a process of telling stories between individuals through treating the diseases. Finally, the authors argued that teaching medical students＇ literature can deepen their understandings of diseases and improving their capacities of the empathy so that humanistic quality of medical students can be enhanced.
