Near surface is the most complex,sensitive and fragile part of the Earth.It extends from the ground surface to the depth of nearly 1 000 meters.The near surface furnishes the vast majority of necessary materials for human living,such as soil,groundwater,coal and oil,and minerals.All the time,we plant vegetation,raise livestock and build structures on the ground surface,and now and then, we exploit resources and extend living space into the subsurface. As a result, the mankind is closely bound up with the near surface.
