In May through October 2014, Guizhou Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Chongqing Municipal Institute of Cultural Heritage cooperatively conducted comprehensive survey, mapping and trial excavation to the Yangmacheng Site. This castle site is in an irregular oval plan, covering an area of about 35 ha, the stone-built enclosure walls were about 3500 m long in total, through which six gates were opened. At the "Yamen (governmental office)" site in the south of the wall-enclosed castle area, rectangular courtyard and related architectural remains and a quarry site to their northwest were discovered. The results of the survey and trial excavation showed that the Yangmacheng ( "Horse-raising City" ) was mainly designed and constructed by the tusi (hereditary headman in the minority areas) of the Bozhou Prefecture and experienced the starting at the end of the Song Dynasty, the partial development and short flourishing in the Ming Dynasty and the continuous using since the Qing Dynasty. Its construction and declining were closely related to the Mongol conquest of the Song Dynasty and the "Bozhou Campaign" of the "Three Major Campaigns of Wanli" in the Ming Dynasty.
