Coupled Ecology and Agriculture Revived on Arid Land——Achievements of Agricultural Ecosystem and Evolution Research Team of Lanzhou University, China

THE Yellow River flows across Lanzhou city, Gansu Province in northwest China. One does not realize China＇s vastnessunless visiting in person the country＇s northwest. Here the land is immense. However, drought, desertifieation, scant vegetation, water and soil erosion have resulted in low agricultural productivity and huge ecosystem erises.
