从赛珍珠《大地》译本看白话翻译对文学语言现代化建构

On the Effect of Translation in Vernacular Chinese on the Modernization of Literary Language——The Translation of "the Good Earth" by Pearl S. Bulk Taken for Example

五四时期白话翻译通过以直译和欧化为主要手段的语言迁移,使得白话文体现出英语化的特征,并最终确立了现代汉语的基调。从微观视角对白话译作进行跨时期的对比分析能够丰富翻译对汉语影响力的研究。以赛珍珠名作《大地》译本为例,比较五四时期和现代译本在遣词造句上的异同并探究其成因,发现译者通过直译、省略和增译的手法进行新词创造、句法结构和语序改变,进而完成文学语言的现代化建构,由此揭示外来语语法体系、目的语主流文化、译者要素对翻译的影响。

The translation in vernacular Chinese during the May Fourth period made the literary Chinese of that time possessed of the English characteristic and formed modem Chinese through language transfer like European translation and literal translation finally. from the micro perspective in a comparative way Analyzing the translation in vernacular Chinese across time helps to enrich the study of the influence of translation on literary Chinese. Taking the Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck for example, this paper compared the differences between the two versions finished in the May Fourth period and in the modem time and tried to find its cause. It was proved that translators created new vocabulary and changed syntactic structure, word order with the help of literal translation, ellipsis and amplification. All this contributed to the modernization of the literary Chinese, which reveals the influence of factors such as the grammar system of a foreign language, the mainstream culture of a target language and the translator on the practice of translation.
