The Yi-style gui food container was a type of distinctive pottery vessel distributed in the northern Shandong region of the Shang and Western Zhou periods. The present paper deals with the history of its study, the background of its unearthing, its associa- tion with other objects and the area and date of its prevalence, and studies its origination and development, as well as the ethnic mi- gration it reflects. On this basis the author points out that the westward spread of the Yi-style gui in the late Shang and early Zhou may have been concerned with the westward migration of the Dongyi Ethnic Group represented by the Qin people.
