摘要
按照面向的使用场合,英语教学可分为专用英语和通用英语两大类。从全球范围来看,中国大陆以外地区的大学普遍实行专用英语教学,给我国大学英语教学改革提供了一个富有启发性的参考视角。专用英语与通用英语各有所长,优势互补,在教学改革中应当从目标定位、课程衔接、教师发展三个方面来致力实现两者的有机结合。
In accordance with the situation of use it serves, teaching of English can be classified as that of General English(GE)and that of English for Specific Purposes(ESP). From a global perspective, teaching of ESP is prevalent in English courses at university level across regions and countries beyond Chinese mainland. Such a trend offers China a rich inspiration as well as a point of reference as the country strives to reform the education of the English language. Each with their own unique merits, the course on GE and the course on ESP are mutually complementary, and a balance should be achieved between the two in the reform of English teaching. ESP and GE can be integrated from three angles: course aims, coherence of courses and teachers' self-cultivation.
