摘要
美国社区大学ESL课程承担着为国际学生提供转学教育和社区移民进行语言培训的职能。ESL课程实行分级制小班教学,学术课程衔接强化课程,融合了人文素质教育,学业评估以过程性评估为主。美国社区大学ESL教育为我国高职英语课程改革提出有益的启示:我国高职英语教学应将分级制与小班教学相结合,开设高级阅读和写作类课程,以适应转学教育的需要,重视过程性评估,提升学生的英语综合应用能力。
ESL education in American community colleges provides international students and immigrants with different English curriculum that pave their ways for further studies in universities or help them grasp basic language for daily communication. Ranking system and small class teaching is carried out in ESL curriculum. The academic courses are in linkage with intensive courses which integrate with humanistic quality education, and the process assessment is the main ways of academic evaluation. The ESL education in American community colleges may give some enlightenments to our English curriculum reform in China's higher vocational colleges. We should implement ranking system and small class teaching in the English teaching and offer advanced reading and writing courses in China's higher vocational colleges to meet the demand of students' further studies. We should attach great importance to the process assessment to promote students' comprehensive abilities in English.
