A Comparative Study of Chinese Fandao(反倒) and English Instead

重点研究汉语的副词性关联词语"反倒"与英语的副词性关联词语instead的对应关系和异同点.在前人研究的基础上,主要根据语言学理论对汉英副词"反倒"和instead在语法义、句法、语用三个方面进行对比分析,集中探讨其主要共同点和共性规律:1."反倒"和instead语法义重叠;2."反倒"的句法位置比较固定,而instead相对比较灵活;3."反倒"和instead具有若干相同的语篇及语用功能,如语篇衔接功能、信息焦点提示功能、指明预设功能等.

This paper focuses on the corresponding relationship as well as the similarities and differences between Chinese adverbial conjunction fandao（ 反倒）and English adverbial conjunction instead. On the basis of predecessors＇ researches and mainly according to the linguistic theories, this paper analyzes fandao（反倒） and instead in grammatical meaning, syntax and pragmatics, focusing on the main common ground and shared rules： 1. Fandao（ 反倒）and instead have same grammatical meaning; 2. The syntactic position of fandao（反倒） is relatively fixed, while instead is relatively flexible; 3. Fandao（反倒）and instead have same textual and pragmatic functions, such as textual cohesive function; the information focus hinting function; function of making clear presuppositions, etc.
