摘要 首先指出认知隐喻与英语词根结合研究的不足,然后探讨语源学、认知隐喻与词根三者结合研究的可能性。通过采用语源学视域、历时和共时结合的研究方法,认为隐喻与词根可以拓展单个词汇的语义,解释概念隐喻理论的部分渊源,深化对单个概念隐喻的理解,在方位隐喻中单独存在或与结构隐喻并存,有助于认清不同概念隐喻的内在联系和把握概念隐喻与认知转喻的关系,充当语源论证修辞方式的必要因素,以及成为音义学研究的重要内容。 The paper first points out the inadequate study of cognitive metaphor and word roots,and then explores the possibility of studying them together with etymology.By adopting an etymological perspective and using synchronic and diachronic methods,the paper argues that metaphor and word roots can extend the meaning of a single word,which helps interpret part of the cause of the conceptual metaphor and deepen the understanding of a single conceptual metaphor.Its single existence in the directional metaphor or co-existence in the structural metaphor can help to recognize the intrinsic relationship between different conceptual metaphors as well as the relationship between conceptual metaphor and cognitive metonymy,serve as essential elements of etymological arguments,and become an important content in phonosemantics.
