Luo Weizhang's novel Riverdance is a cultural reflection on the existence of the bottom class in contemporary China. The novel centers on the ordinary life experiences of the Luo family who lived on the Luojiaba Peninsula. It relates the historical changes taking place on the peninsula and the modern existence. The local culture of Luojiaba Peninsula evolves from the ancient culture of Ba People, which originated from the tradition of taking other people's opinions as rules of governing their(Ba People's)own action. In modern times,Luo Bazi and his people destroyed the local culture with the same governing principles, which suggested that they were lacking of independent subjectivity. The local tradition was gradually changed unwittingly by Luo Chuanming,a native born and bred on the peninsula. He introduced new knowledge and reason to the peninsula, and at the same time he stuck to the local tradition. His way of thinking was both positive and negative, which brought hope of gaining subjectivity for his people on the basis of adhering to local tradition.
