刘鹗的《老残游记》在晚清被作为四大谴责小说之一,拥有广泛的读者群。老残是刘鹗的化身,他在晚清时期,为治疗不堪一击的国家,摇着串铃在中国山东等地四处奔走,旨在警醒人们和当时的统治者。刘鹗通过小说中潜藏的意象来表达自己的真实意图与思想情感,从而体现出《老残游记》的价值所在。

Travel Notes by Liu E is considered as one of the four condemnation novels in the late Qing Dynasty with a lot of readers. Lao Can is as liu E＇s incarnation,who shook string of bells running around Shandong province whose intention is to make people and the governors alert in the late Qing Dynasty,in order to save the country which cannot withstand a single blow. Liu E expressed his true intention and feelings by latent image in the novel,thus indicating the value of Travel Notes.
