《王韵》新增俨、酽二韵之音理探讨

Research on the Reason for Wangyun's(王韵) adding yan(严) with Shang(上) and Qu(去) tones

王仁昫《刊谬补缺切韵》在《切韵》的分韵基础上新增严韵的上去二声,此举并非为填补空缺而无中生有的强行划分,而是对严凡两韵语音分化的重要揭示。中古后期严凡两韵的关系重在分而不在合,二者分化的动因是唇音字的轻唇化,这在中古时期的诗文押韵、官修韵书的同用关系以及现代汉语方言中均有反映。

Wang Ren-xu's(王仁昫) adding two yuns(韵) to Qieyun(切韵), corresponded to yan(严) respectively with Shang(上) and Qu(去) tones, reflected the distinction between yan(严) and fan(凡), but not as it has always been believed that he just attempted to fill the phonological structural blanks of yan(严). Actually, since the bilabials underwent labiodentalization, during the late ancient Chinese period, yan(严) and fan(凡) differed from one another more and more distinctively, which can be seen in such materials as the ancient poem rhymes, the tongyong(同用) rules in the official books of rhymes and the modern Chinese dialects.
