摘要
玛丽·雪莱的小说《弗兰肯斯坦》包含着丰富的寓意,作者在小说文本中以隐喻的方式表达她对东方主义的批判态度,这一点鲜有研究者涉及。本文结合赛义德的东方主义理论和拉康的镜像阶段说,分析小说中的东方"他者"不过是西方"自我"的投射,真正的东方处于隐匿状态。西方身份借助被贬抑的东方得以构建。作者通过这样一部政治寓言,揭示了西方对东方的殖民本相。
Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein has rich implied meanings,of which her critique of orientalism by way of metaphor is rarely examined. Drawing on Said's orientalism and Lacan's mirror stage theory,this paper analyzes how the Oriental other may turn out to be a projection of the Western self,with the real Orient being invisible. It is through the appropriation of the depreciated Orient that a Western identity is constructed. The writer exposes,through this political fable,the West's colonial strategies on the Orient.
