在庞德著名的《比萨诗章》的碎片文本中,有两种哲学思想把各种碎片统一在一起:新柏拉图主义和儒家思想。庞德通过秩序和德性两个核心概念,借助一些经典意象如"光"和"水"等构建了新柏拉图主义和儒家思想的内在联系。在庞德的想象中,"光"的意象既指新柏拉图主义之"光",又指儒家之"明";"水"的意象不仅象征新柏拉图主义的"理智",而且象征儒家的"仁者"和"知者"。光和水的流溢不仅暗示着秩序,也象征着善或德性的传播。庞德构建新柏拉图主义和儒家思想的内在联系,其中一个重要目的是在两者相互融通和对话中,为地狱般的西方世界探索灵魂改造之路或天堂之路。
There're two kinds of philosophy uniting the fragments in the famous poetry The Pisan Cantos by Ezra Pound: Neoplatonism and Confucianism. Pound blends the two philosophical schools via their two core concepts(order and virtue) and some classical images such as light and water etc. In Pound's imagination, the image light represents 明 in Confucianism as well as the light in Neoplatonism; while the image water signifies the humane and the sage in Confucianism as well as the nous in Neoplatonism. Both the emanation of light and the flow of water suggest the spread of virtue or goodness. One of the main reasons why Pound tries to establish the link between Neoplatonism and Confucianism is that he hopes to find a path to the paradise for the hellish West.
