On Ancient Literati Calligraphers' Comprehensive Quality and Personalized Choices——A Case Study of Wen Zhengming

中国书法是一门综合艺术。古代文人书家首先是擅长诗文的文人,其次才是擅长书写的书家。他们在研习书法时,未必有丰富的书法资源,却能探本索源,往往取得很高的成就。他们又不限于一种字体、一项技能,多数追求广博、多能,且能在广采博览的同时,做个性化选择。

Chinese calligraphy is a comprehensive art.Ancient calligraphers should be men of letter first and then calligraphers.So despite their lack of resources,they were often able to probe into the essence of calligraphy and achieved great successes.They never confined themselves to a single calligraphic style or skill;instead most of them made their choices after exposing themselves to a variety of styles and techniques.The present paper will take Wen Zhengming as an example and in line with ancient calligraphers＇ comprehensive quality and personalized choice,advance that calligraphers should have relatively high comprehensive quality and bring out their individuality in their calligraphic styles.
