翻译家陈羽纶与《实用主义》

Translator Chen Yulun and Pragmatism

陈羽纶先生是商务印书馆资深编审,《英语世界》的创刊人。除了丰硕的编审成就,他在翻译领域亦有建树,但有关他在哲学社科类译作方面所取得的成果却缺乏系统的研究。陈羽纶先生的经典译作之一是威廉·詹姆士的《实用主义》,这部美国流行的哲学著作在陈羽纶先生的笔下既做到了忠实于原著,风格简洁,语言地道流畅,又符合中国人的汉语阅读习惯。因此,从译文风格、词汇、词组等方面对陈羽纶先生的译本进行分析,能更深入地理解他的翻译思想和哲学文本的翻译策略。

Chen Yulun was a prominent editor in Commercial Press and the founder of the maga- zine The World of English. Besides his fruitful achievements in editing, he has also made great contri- butions in translation. However, few researches have been conducted in his translation in philosophy and social science. One of his classical translations is Pragmatism the popular work of philosophy written by William James in America. Chen Yulun＇s translation is based on its original meaning of the work and it also achieves the style of being concise, fluent and idiomatic, which is in consistence with the Chinese people＇s reading habit. Therefore, the paper attempts to explore his translation thought and the strategy of the philosophy text translation from the perspectives of translation style, words and phra- ses.
